Get the HOA's Yes in Writing Before You Book
In our experience, very few associations ban a roll-off outright. What they regulate is where it sits, how long it stays, and whether the street can see it. The homeowners who get into trouble are rarely breaking a rule on purpose. They booked first and asked the board second, and the bin landed on a common-area drive the HOA considers its own.
The email that heads this off is short. Give the board the delivery date and the pickup window, the bin size and its footprint, the exact spot on your lot, and what the project is. Townhomes, Shared Driveways and the House With No Driveway
Shared driveways are where good projects turn into neighbor disputes. If the bin will narrow a lane someone else uses to reach their garage, talk to them before the HOA does. A neighbor who knew about it for a week will park on the street for a few days without complaint. A neighbor who found out at 7 AM will not.
Townhome complexes add a second layer. The driveway in front of your garage may be yours while the drive aisle behind it belongs to the association, and the truck has to use the aisle to reach you. That is one more reason the board email should include where the truck will stop, not just where the bin will sit.
Then there is the house with no usable driveway at all. A bin in the street is a different situation, because it sits on public right-of-way. Loading matters for the neighbors too. Keep everything below the rim, because overfilled bins are not allowed and a pile sticking up is exactly what gets photographed and sent to the board.
