Dumpster Rental in Los Altos: What the Work Looks Like
Most of Los Altos is mid-century ranch housing on lots of about a quarter acre, and most of the work here is what those houses need now: kitchens and baths, re-roofs, pool demolitions and ADUs in the back yard. North and Central Los Altos see the most tear-down rebuilds, where a 1950s house comes down and a new custom home goes up on the same lot; Loyola Corners and Rancho change more slowly, with remodels rather than replacements. In the city's May 2026 permit report, five of the six demolition permits were swimming pools.
The other change is along El Camino Real and downtown, where Los Altos is adding apartments for the first time in decades: about 200 units under construction at 5150 El Camino Real, 90 affordable homes at 330 Distel Circle, an eight-story building approved at 4898 El Camino Real and a six-story project at 349 First Street that cleared environmental review in August 2026. Residential lots here are large enough that most bins sit in the driveway. Tell us about gates, slopes and overhanging oaks when you book.
